How You Can Help Drain the Swamp

drain

Trump’s “Drain the Swamp” tag was an ingenious marketing move during his campaign, but the American people need to start taking it much more seriously.  Has anybody else reached the point where you really don’t want to turn the news on at all anymore?  Is it even news we’re getting, from anywhere, anymore?  It has been scandal after scandal, and to be fair it is on both sides of the aisle, and one excuse after another for why our elected representatives cannot do the job they were tasked with and promised to do.

This is worse than high school with the “he said, she said” and “I’m not going to talk with you because I want it my way” crap that has become our government.  It is not new, this has been going on for decades, but it is getting worse as the divide between the major parties grows ever deeper and wider by the day.  I don’t care if you like Trump or not, agree with him or not, D.C. is nothing but a cesspool, one that we are paying for, and it is about time we all stepped up and did something about it.  We have absolutely reached a point where the people do fear the government, and as Thomas Jefferson said, “When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.”. You think you don’t fear the government?  What is the first thing you feel, or that goes through your mind if you receive something from the IRS?  How many of you are on pins and needles waiting to see how any potential new tax plan will affect you?

Folks, it is time to turn the tables. I can honestly only think of a couple of people serving in Congress that I believe are there for the right reasons and truly want to do what is best for this nation and its people; it has become a game of the rich and powerful in D.C. and the people are suffering while the Washington elites play.  Enough is enough, this is not a game, it is the fate of our nation, it is the lives of every American hanging in the balance.  The great American experiment is failing, not because the principle is bad, but because the people, generation after generation, have become more and more lazy and apathetic.  We are supposed to be the watchman over our representatives and our government, and just look at what has happened under out watch.  Government has become like a virus that keeps on growing and destroying everything it comes into contact with.

There are still a few of us that pay attention, that want to stand up and say “STOP!”  But the machine has become so enormous we are not even sure what we can do or where to begin.  Here is a thought, stop re-electing incumbents that do not do their job or fight for the things they promised in their campaigns.  Why not spend more time looking into independent and non-party candidates that are not beholden to the two major parties, but rather the people they seek to represent.  We should insist on representatives that are committed to shrinking government back down to what it was intended to be.  We need people in Washington, and in local government, that are not afraid to tackle the tough issues, such as entitlements.  Why do we even have entitlements in this country?  The only things we are entitled to from government are freedom and national security.  Social Security is a tougher issue, people have paid into that their entire lives and that is their money, so yes, I believe they are entitled to that; beyond that, we are not, or rather we are not supposed to be, a socialist country.  We are supposed to be a democratic republic, and if we do not start acting like one real soon, that will be a thing of the past.

I truly hope President Trump can drain the swamp in D.C., but he is going to need some help.  Reach out to your senators and representatives and tell them we have had enough, government is too big and has become a burden on the people.  If they do not have the backbone to start eliminating unnecessary and redundant agencies, to tackle the tough and politically inconvenient issues then they do not deserve to represent the people.  We have got to make our voices heard, then we have to back up what we say at the ballot box.  If enough of us do this, we can send a message, and maybe, just maybe, there will be enough true Americans that want to fix this nation and represent its citizens rather than amass wealth and power that we can turn things around and be the nation we were always intended to be.  So, get off of Facebook and Twitter, email your representatives, pick up the phone and call them; then back up your words at the ballot box.  It is time for we the people to pick up that flag and fight for our nation once again.
